Classic Movie Night

To continue my what do I do for fun post:

I realized something the other day in a rare conversation with the elder offspring. Her education is sadly lacking. (She's Honor Roll and Honor Society, bragging a little here don't mind me) She and the little one hadn't seen many of the movies or read many of the books that shaped our childhoods.

So in an effort to spend more time with the offspring and broaden their horizons, as the older one is now firmly entrenched in the teenage habit of sequestering herself in her room. The man and I have been choosing what we consider classic movies and sharing them with the kidlets. Here are some of the movies we've already covered.

  1. The Sound of Music
  2. Conan The Barbarian
  3. Red Sonja
  4. Footloose
  5. Goonies
  6. The Wizard of Oz
  7. Star Wars (the entire series)
  8. Snow White
  9. Beauty and the Beast
  10. Aladdin
  11. Cinderella
  12. Forest Gump
  13. Empire of the Sun
These are only the beginning of the list. I will have to update this list as I figure out what they've watched and what I want them to watch next.

Light and Dark.

The dark likes to creep in
It flows around the edges
Waiting for a sign of weakness

Eb and Flow
Light and Dark
Life is a push and pull

Light erases Dark

Sometimes the Dark steals a bit of what is left behind.
Sometimes the light reclaims what is stolen
Sometimes it's lost

What I do For Fun.

That question was posed to me by a dear friend of mine over dinner. It stopped me in my tracks.
What did I do for fun? I had fun. But I couldn't remember the last time I actively went out and sought out fun.

So I sat down and made a list:

What do I do for Fun?
  • Archery- This is fairly new, got my bow for Christmas
  • Shooting
  • Running- running my first 5k of the year in two weeks
  • Watch TV- Love me some Archer
  • Music- from Bach to Metallica to Soca. I love it all
  • Camping - Two night max and a clean porta potty a must.
  • Reading - Anything that strikes my fancy Fiction- Biographies- Self Help it's all good
  • Eating out- Brunch, Lunch and occasionally Dinner (it's expensive for a writer on a budget)
  • Hanging out with my friends- Whether it be the nerd herd, the writing crew or my ride or die posse from high school (it's like 5 of us on Skype).
  • Hanging out with my family
  • Tennis- it's been years but I figure if I say it enjoy it I'll eventually get back to it.

New Theme Song and Happiness

Ok let's try this again.
I discovered Pharrel's Happy the other day. Just after a conversation with a relative of mine. Happiness while an emotion is much like forgiveness in that it is often a deliberate choice and requires a conscious decision.

I'm still pursuing my goals this year. I allowed myself to get stuck at the end of last year. By chance a good friend was in town this week and I walked away reminded of why I work my 9-5 and why I started writing in the first place.

Welcome to 2014! what are you going to do with it?

I'm publishing this year. Spending more time with my friends and family and Taking a vacation.
